A Presentation of the Free Lie Algebra M_2,m

ABSTRACT

Let M_2,m be a free metabelian nilpotent Lie algebra of rank 2 and nilpotency class m-1. It is shown that M_2,m admits a minimal presentation whose set of defining relators consists of certain types of basic commutators of length at most m.
